February 2016 Newsletter

This Valentine's Day, as our community grows, so does our ability to nurture the connections between sustainable forests, thriving communities and responsible procurement. Here are just a few of the ways that love is in the air at SFI.
Welcome to our New Program Participants, who share our love for forests!

And just last week, Boy Scouts of America's (BSA) newest High Adventure Base - the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia - received its SFI Forest Management Certificate for 11,929 acres/4,800 hectares. When added to Philmont Scout Ranch, BSA now has more than 100,000 acres of land certified to the SFI Forest Management Standard!
Forests certified to the SFI Standard now cover more than 280 million acres /114 million hectares in North America stretching from Canada's boreal forest to the U.S. South.
Now that's a lot of forest to love!
Just last night at the National Wild Turkey Federation's Annual Awards Banquet held in Nashville, TN, SFI felt the love when NWTF presented SFI with the Land Stewardship Award, which recognizes distinguished organizations that promote wildlife habitat management and conservation.
SFI loves data - The Natural Marketing Institute surveyed more than 20,000 U.S. consumers in 2015 and found that 34% recognized the SFI logo. The SFI logo is recognized more than any other forest certification logo.
SFI Program Participant Norbord shared the love when it made a generous donation of oriented strand board (OSB) to Habitat for Humanity Canada in Edmonton, Alberta. The donation came through the SFI Waste Not Want Not program. The collaboration between SFI Program Participants and Habitat for Humanity benefits future homeowners across North America.
SFI just announced this year's suite of SFI Conservation and Community Partnerships Grant projects. Now there's even more to love about the SFI Community. Read about the 19 projects that will help further understanding of the conservation benefits of managed forests, and strengthen the connection between communities and forests.
