PEFC, SFI and AFF issued a joint press release that addresses the innovative initiative happening through AFF with small landholders that links them to the continent-wide reach of SFI in North America, which in turn is connected to the international level by PEFC. It expressed mutual support for new approaches to forest management planning and certification, which will help streamline forest certification, and ensure access to the global marketplace.

On September 29, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam announced that the Florida Forest Service, a division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, had certified Blackwater River and Tate's Hell State Forests, to SFI

Through the SFI Forest Partners® Program, the Florida Forest Service joined other public agencies to seek cost-effective and efficient methods to implement and achieve independent SFI certification on its two largest state forests. Watch a video of the Florida State Forest Audit Here
NWTF and SFI Sign Agreement for Forest Health
The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and SFI announced an exciting new partnership for future forests. The two organizations have signed a memorandum of mutual support that establishes a partnership in promoting well-managed forests that provide wildlife habitat, clean water and recreational access.

In addition, NWTF partnered up with the Minnesota and Wisconsin SFI Implementation Committees, and SFI Inc. to produce the "Forestry Connections" series of "Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt."  TV show. Episode 1 discusses  the importance of active forest management and the associated economic, social, and environmental benefits. In Episode 2, NWTF's Scott Vance and Rebecca Barnard welcome forestry professionals to the program to discuss the role that best management practices and forest certification, and specifically certification to the SFI standards, play in promoting responsible forest management. The second episode will be available on NWTF's YouTube channel soon.

SFI Sets a Guinness World Record One Tree at a Time: Officially Amazing
SFI and its partners across North America set a new Guinness World Records title, planting 202,935 trees in one hour. SFI partnered with 29 teams of 25-100 people each to plant trees in locations from New York City to Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The effort involved 1,165 volunteers from all ages and backgrounds, including the forest sector, community organizations, youth groups, conservation groups and SFI Implementation Committees.
