SFI & U.S. Endowment Joint Webinar

Peter Stangel, U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities, G. Tracy Mehan, Principal for The Cadmus Group, and Paul Trianosky, SFI Senior Director for Conservation Partnerships co-host a webinar to familiarize SFI Program Participants with the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities' efforts to generate funding from water consumers for the management and protection of forested watersheds. The purpose of this webinar is to familiarize SFI Program Participants with the Endowment's efforts and to seek recommendations for communities that may be ripe for a payment for watershed service approach. Additionally, the Endowment hopes to identify one or more SFI Program Participants who might be willing to work with them to develop the idea. For more information, contact Paul Trianosky.

SFI Webinar on EU Timber Regulation
November 8, 2012
Nadine Block, SFI Senior Director of Government Outreach, co-hosted a webinar with Rupert Oliver, a consultant with expertise in EU policy and forest certification. The webinar outlined the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR), which prohibits illegally harvested timber or products derived from such timber to be brought into the EU, and will take effect in March 2013. The EUTR is expected to drive increased market interest in forest certification as a means to demonstrate legality and minimize risk. Rupert provided analysis on the EUTR and his conclusions that the SFI Program will be regarded by operators and regulators as a credible means of assuring compliance with the EUTR.

Conservation Planning Efforts in Forested Regions of the United States

SFI Inc. Director of Conservation Partnerships facilitated this webinar led by T. Bently Wigley, from the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement (NCASI), joined by Phillip Weatherford (NCASI) and Carolyn Mehl (Ecosystem Management Research Institute). SFI: Taking Action to Combat Illegal Logging

Senior Director of Government Outreach, Nadine Block, co-hosted a 1-hour live webinar with Adam Grant, Senior Associate, World Resources Institute, to examine efforts to combat illegal logging. The webinar provided an update on recent government initiatives, highlighted how the SFI Standard addresses legality in the supply chain, and previewed tools being developed by the Forest Legality Alliance to help companies along the supply chain conduct due diligence on forest trade.
