As a non-profit organization, SFI Inc. thrives on the energy and collaboration of diverse groups that help it promote sustainable forest management in North America and responsible procurement globally.
Many conservation, social interest, professional and government organizations officially support SFI Inc. and work with the SFI program. Conservation groups like The Conservation Fund, the American Bird Conservancy, Ducks Unlimited and Conservation International recognize that SFI certification helps to protect wildlife habitat, biological diversity and other important forest values.
Others partner with SFI Inc. and SFI program participants to conduct research to advance understanding of forestry-specific issues, achieving mutual conservation goals and providing tangible, on-the-ground benefits for forests in North America. For example, NatureServe develops tools to help program participants identify species and communities requiring protection so they can meet the SFI forest standard requirements.
The SFI program recognizes the achievements of its many partners by creating awards such as the Leadership in Conservation Research Award and the Sharon H. Haines Memorial Award for Innovation and Leadership in Sustainability.
