Migratory birds cover vast landscapes. SFI offers a living laboratory for researchers to track them across North America.

Helping Birds Thrive in the Boreal Forest

SFI is helping boreal birds by supporting the University of Alberta’s Boreal Avian Modelling (BAM) Project. The BAM project is developing models to help land managers, including forest managers, understand the diversity of habitats birds need for breeding. This work will help conserve forested habitats now and in future for a variety of birds.

“Billions of birds migrate to and from the boreal forest from as far away as South America. They face many threats along the way and on their breeding grounds. SFI’s North American scale is important for bird research and conservation.”
