I’m so very proud to be recognizing the use of wood certified to the SFI Standard in the beautiful construction of an extremely worthy project: the Canadian Cancer Society’s Kordyban Lodge Cancer Care Facility designed by NSDA Architects.
“It’s an honour to receive this inaugural award and be recognized by both SFI and the Wood WORKS! BC program for NSDA’s work on the Kordyban Lodge,” said Jerry Doll, Partner at NSDA. “For cancer patients and their families, the use of wood in Kordyban Lodge helped create a life-affirming residential environment contributing to their physical, emotional and psychological well-being.”
The 10th annual Wood WORKS! BC Wood Design Awards, celebrated earlier this week, was a fantastic evening with over 350 incredible wood design projects honoured in a number of different categories – Residential Wood Design, Multi-Unit Residential Wood Design, Commercial Wood Design, Interior Beauty Design, Institutional Wood Design, and Western Red Cedar. Best of all, a first! A new award was presented by SFI for North American Wood Design and the innovative use of wood certified to the SFI Standard.
SFI was pleased to recognize NSDA Architects as the first SFI Award recipient for their work on the Kordyban Lodge Cancer Care Facility located in Prince George, British Columbia. This project transformed a parking lot into a magnificent healing environment using local wood certified to the SFI Standard provided by SFI Program Participants – The Sinclair Group of Companies and Winton Global Lumber. NSDA delivered a structure that offers patients and staff beauty, comfort, and functionality.
“Our goal with our lodges is to create a place where cancer patients can feel at home and find some respite from the difficult journey they are on,” said Julia Payson, Director, Accommodation, Transportation and Financial Support for the Canadian Cancer Society. “The Kordyban Lodge more than meets that goal and because of the stunning wood features, is also a true reflection of the spirit of Northern BC. We are incredibly proud of this place and have had nothing but positive feedback from our guests.”
SFI is very proud to see such a worthy project receive this inaugural award.
