Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia Build Day a Double Blessing for New Parents of Twins

I was thrilled be part of this wonderful Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia build in Halifax last week. Volunteers from JD Irving Ltd lumber division and SFI raised the first 2 walls of the future home for Natasha and Blair Skinner. Check out the picture of our group raising one of the walls. This special build day that SFI sponsored was also in support of responsible forestry and to help promote certified building materials while making a difference for a local family in need. Building a home with wood that is responsibly sourced helps support local communities while encouraging the use of a natural renewable resource.
Nova_Scotia_H4H_Wal#18D62F1The Skinner couple, despite the added stress and excitement related to the recent premature birth of their twins, were able to be onsite for this special day. It was an emotional moment, when our building team presented the family with a piece of certified lumber signed by all the volunteers as a keepsake. Irving tissue division also generously donated a 6-month supply of Irving tissue products and two Royale bath robes – for which the Skinners were extremely thankful.

Nova_Scotia_H4H_Gro#18D6351It was wonderful working with JD Irving, who is such a strong supporter of SFI and a very important Program Participant on the East coast. All of their six sawmills include the SFI label on product, which results in thousands of pieces of lumber bearing the SFI label shipped to Canada and the U.S. customers each week. The Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia Affiliate  gained more awareness about certified wood-based building materials which they can specifically request in the future to help promote their own sustainability initiatives in future builds

There was so much positive energy and enthusiasm from Irving volunteers on this special build – captured in the group shot in front of our build sign – that there was talk of perhaps making this an annual event.
