Ottawa, Ontario – In an ongoing show of support for the tremendous environmental efforts of Scouts Canada, Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) is proud to supply a variety of unique certified wood products for use at the Scouts Canada Canadian Scout Jamboree 2013 (CJ’13), being held this week in Sylvan Lake, Alberta.
SFI has donated 100 custom made paddles, made by Oconto Paddles with SFI® certified cedar from International Forest Products Limited (Interfor), which have been presented to the Scouts and are now in use at CJ’13. The Western Canada SFI Implementation Committee also contributed 4800 pieces of certified lumber to help build mobile kitchen shelters being used at the event. The lumber was sourced from Spruceland Millworks, an SFI chain of custody certified company, and generously delivered by Dakeryn Industries.
“SFI and Scouts Canada have formed a unique working partnership based around our core principles of using education and demonstration activities to help youth learn about sustainable forestry and environmental conservation,” says SFI National Director Market Access and Green Building Danny Karch. “We’re proud to continually support Scouts Canada efforts to educate youth about how to use natural resources wisely – and the Canadian Scout Jamboree is an ideal setting to do just that.”
CJ’13 brings together nearly 5000 youth, leaders and volunteers from across the country and from around the world for the ultimate Scouting experience.
